Sweet! Upcycle Those Candy Bowls

Photo and styling by Elise Anthony; floral arrangement from Kirkland’s.

Vintage glassware has a spot of honor in almost every room of my house, tucked away in nooks, crannies and shelves.

I’ve been on a whole green-yellow-blue glass spree for the past season, mostly for my antiques booth, so when loved ones gave me this gorgeous bowl, I knew immediately I wanted to put it front and center on my springtime mantel.

Whoah, that yellow bowl looks more modern now! Good ole yellow and gray color combos almost always work beautifully.

And see how my Lab looks cozy by the fireplace? He fits right in. It’s like I designed the house around my dog. (Well, maybe I did.)

Napping by the fireplace is contagious.

Styling Carnival Glass

Decorating with Depression glass, Carnival glass or anything fragile requires a bit of forethought if your big dog has tail like a out-of-control sledgehammer like this sweet boy in the photo. Same applies to toddlers and teens.

Yet I don’t want to pack up all my pretties for post-pandemic parties. I’d rather take a chance and use what I love.

Practicality Meets Pretty

The dog and the doctor LOVES this upcycling idea: Fill candy bowls with dog treats, not candy.

Lift the lid and dogs come a-running.

Remember the cheery yellow bowl on the mantel? It’s chock full of treats too. Hopefully our human friends look before they eat.
