Booth at Grapevine Antique Market; Photo by Elise Anthony
Editor’s note: This is a sneak-peek preview of this weekend’s haul, coming to my favorite shoppers soon. 👀
A mannequin named Grace is not even the weirdest thing I brought Saturday. Nor the baby mannequin. Or a couple of turkeys painted by Doris. But we’ll get to that soon enough.
Quite The Quilt Show

Quilts never go out of style, and I love them in all forms: Crazy quilts, shabby quilts, fancy quilts, Amish quilts, even scrappy scraps and strips of quilts.
And hearts.
So are we surprised these quilt pillows came home with me? At least it cushioned the dishes that eventually joined my stash.
TBH, not sure these are gonna make it to my antiques booth. Ooh, they’re reversible …
Yeah, I flipped out over these.
So now I officially have like eight or 12 pillows on my bed. Whatever. Making a pillow-fluffed bed builds character.
I also swooned over the quilt scraps used for banners and other goodies at the Grapevine Antique Market. (See the photo at the top of this post.)
Confession: I went to Grapevine to visit a set of yellow Depression glass dishes I’ve been eyeing forever. I’ve talked myself in and out of this set four or forty times. Wouldn’t this make for a pretty picnic? Or mix beautifully with pink and mint green Depression glass dishes (I don’t have)?

Along the way, we met a delightful vendor who was rearranging her jewelry display and she told me me about one of her favorite spots for thrifting. Sorry, not sorry, my lips are sealed. But keep reading, because I’m sharing some of the goodness later.
I resisted the temptation to buy the vendor’s vintage sewing box but we couldn’t resist a few of her silver and turquoise gems that she’s parsing from her personal collection.
So, I’m deliberating over the dishes again and again and my Mom’s patience cracked. The dishes are coming home because she’s tired of hearing about them. Squee!
Did I have buyer’s regret? No. And yes. I only wish I bought the whitewashed trunk these were packed in and the pretty linen tucked in there too.
Cheery Cherries
Vintage Hat Photo By Elise Anthony
Speaking of my imaginary picnic, this delectable white straw hat brimming with flowers, cherries and black velvet ribbon looks like Mary Poppins is ordering up a spoonful of sugar and a smile. This one probably isn’t making it to the mall either. It hailed from The Fair in Fort Worth.
Remember Grace the mannequin? She’s not decent enough for you to see her yet. But she sends her love. 💋
She is, however, willing to part with her black-jeweled brushed felt Musketeer from Damozel in New York.

More Berries
I’m always on the prowl for personal favorites of collectors I shop for, so this gleaming white piece is destined to be a berry bowl on her table.

Not every find is a hit though. We had a naughty laugh over another milk-glass item that the Joy & Gladness probably shouldn’t mention. I can’t unsee it now. I kinda wished I had bought it now for Ladies Night.
Whew, it’s getting hot in here. Antique malls, thrift stores and vintage markets are rarely generous with the AC. And carting Grace around didn’t help. Ok, back to the goods. This ceramic log is fire, no? 🔥 It’s coming to my booth soon.

Just My Type
Typesetting Tray Photo By Elise Anthony
My Grandpa bought my first typesetting tray when I was studying journalism in college to hold a few miniatures here and there.
I wish I still his sweet gesture and the one I bought afterward. I don’t see them very often anymore, and the few I see are in rough shape or have tacky things glued into the nooks and crannies.
Stop the presses!
I found this pristine piece, complete with the metal drawer pull, for a writer who’s been pining to add this to her home.
Note to self: The vehicle is prolly packed already.
Better buy small items only at this point. So, even though I don’t sew, I loaded up on some lace for a future project.
Um, how did that little lavender sachet get in there? At least my car smells great.
At this point. my feet are blistered, it’s still hot, and Grace is ready to get going.
But, it seems disrespectful not to stop at my new secret shopping stop that I heard about. So I dashed in. I passed up some rosy pink dishes. Yay.
Maybe I was dreaming of ice cream so I could cool off so I picked up this four-pack of sherbet dishes.

The rest of my shopping is a blur. You can’t have enough deviled-egg platters, so this one is ready for your next happy hour.
And we’ll talk turkey later.
Doris did it. That’s another story for later.
Did you know that while you are socially distancing and sweltering through a mask during summer that you’ll find the prettiest crochet work? You will.
Maybe the baby mannequin will go gaga for it.
Now, I found great goodies and I won’t bore you with any more, but one thing I can’t explain. I don’t know why I dig this this strand of ceramic onions.
I’m at a loss here. Maybe I’ll hang them next to my vintage kitchen tools in the booth. Share your inspo below in the comments.
